Here’s Your Post-Apoc Writing Prompt

This is just a prompt. It’s a way to get you to thinking. What direction you take this story from the prompt is entirely yours. Are you ready?

Situation:

The year is 2222. The United States of America has splintered into five different competing nation states. Which ones are friendly? Which ones are not? Where are these states divided? What caused the division? When did it happen? Was it gradual or happen all at once? Did it involve a war? What resources do each have? Do they trade with each other? Why or why not?

Characters:

Protagonist – From the smallest of the nation states that used to make up the USA. Primary goal is to reconnect with a line of the family tree that got lost.

Antagonist – From the largest of the nation states that used to make up the USA. Primary goal is to build a connected enterprise that exploits the natural resources of each of these nation states for capitalist gain.

Where do the paths of the protagonist and antagonist cross? Why?

Plot and theme:

This part is entirely up to you.

Again, tell the story your way. Short or long, public or private. The genre is post-apocalyptic, but that doesn’t mean it can’t include romance, crime, or elements from other genres. Make it weird or mainstream. It’s all up to you.
