This Week From Under the Trellis

The speculative fiction in the Garden Gnome Publications’ community Discord server seems to be drying up. But our Narrative channel is quite active. Check out the links below.

Garden Gnome Pubs Contests

Congratulations to @fredkese for winning the recent flash fiction contest with his Flash Up Story. The prompt for the story was the image below.

Exquisite Corpse

The garden gnomes have a currently running Exquisite Corpse writing exercise where different writers take turns telling a collaborative story. We’ve got our first two stories posted. Here’s the initial setup for the story:

Earth has been attacked by aliens. Five private space explorers managed to escape before its ultimate destruction. One of them is the brilliant but mad scientist who built the space-faring vehicle from scraps he’s/she’s collected over the years. Another is a serial killer who escaped prison just before the invasion. A third is a successful financier whose money is all but useless now but he’s (she’s?) carried $1 million of it in a briefcase onto the vessel. The fourth passenger is a child. The fifth is a failed political activist.

The story is set in the space vessel. What is it? How large is it? What facilities does it have? Where are they going? What conflicts arise between the characters?

@felt.buzz took this setup and wrote the first leg of the story. @blockurator took it to the next stretch. Up next is @foxyspirit. @fromage will pull up the rear and give us the wrap up.

Want in on the next one? Be sure to follow @gardengnomepubs on Steemit to get the scoop, or look for future issues of this newsletter. Our contests and writing exercises are fun and rewarding on many levels. Participants routinely get picked up by @curie for higher rewards and resteems occur frequently. Get your speculative fiction spread to wider audiences.

Sasquatch Sighting

Shame on @quillfire for outing our fearless leader, and a few other Steemit misfits. He has identified the furry critters behind the masks of the infamous Sasquatch, Bigfoot, and Yeti. Of course, the proof is unscientific.

Sasquatch

Thanks @quillfire, aka Assquatch

Thanks! See you at the apocalypse.

A special thanks to our delegators:
